Declutter Your Home Before Staging & Putting It On The Market

Decluttering is a crucial step in preparing your home for sale. Not only does it make your home look more spacious and organized, it also helps potential buyers imagine themselves living in the space. However, decluttering can be a daunting task, especially if you've lived in your home for a long time. Here are some tips to help you declutter effectively before staging your home.

  1. Start with a Plan:

  1. The first step is to make a plan. Decide which rooms you want to declutter and prioritize them based on the amount of clutter. Start with the room that has the most clutter and work your way down. Make a list of the tasks you need to complete in each room and set goals for each day. The other option is to start with the entry area and go around the first floor till all the rooms, closets, nooks, and spaces are decluttered. Making the impact seen as soon as you walk in makes you feel like you have accomplished a lot from the start.

  2. Create Three Piles: When decluttering, it's important to create three piles: keep, donate/sell, and throw away. Be honest with yourself about what you REALLY need and use. If you haven't used something in over a year, it's probably time to let it go. Remember, the less clutter you have, the easier it will be to stage your home. The end goal is to stage your home to sell, not to live. The buyer for your home is looking to make sure all of their things will fit. The more room it looks like they have, the more they can envision living in your home, the sooner they decide they want to buy it.

  3. Get Rid of Excess Furniture: Too much furniture can make a room look small and cramped. Remove some of your furniture to create more space and make the room look bigger. You can always rent furniture from us for staging purposes if necessary. We offer everything from all the accessories that you could need for your home to update the look, to furniture that fills in the gaps or replaces your severely outdated (1975 barca lounger) or broken pieces.

  1. Organize Your Storage Spaces: Buyers are always interested in storage space, so it's important to declutter and organize your closets, pantry, and cabinets. Remove any items that are not necessary and organize the remaining items neatly. This will make the space look more appealing and functional. Yes, people will look through your closets, cabinets, drawers, and attic spaces. They are trying to see if there is enough space, if it’s functional, if there is any past damage, and ultimately if they can envision themselves there.

  1. Clean and Repair: After you've decluttered, it's important to clean and repair any damage you might have seen. This includes dusting, vacuuming, and wiping down surfaces.. Make any necessary repairs, such as fixing leaky faucets, painting, or replacing broken light fixtures. A clean and well-maintained home will impress potential buyers.

In conclusion, decluttering is an essential step in preparing your home for sale. It may take some time and effort, but it will be worth it in the end. By following these tips, you can declutter effectively and stage your home to impress potential buyers. Good luck!
